HOW TO WALK WITH FEAR TO OWN YOUR UNIQUE ADVANTAGE IN BUSINESS
July 15, 2021
A client expressed this fear with me when discussing her brand and online presence…
“I’m afraid if I show how good things are, I’ll be called out”.
She isn’t alone here, nearly every entrepreneur I work with holds fears aligned to this way of thinking.
Perhaps you’ve been judged in the past, perhaps you’ve judged another woman, all I know is this fear runs deep and until you can break through it, it’s going to impact your ability to build a thriving business.
What I know about fear is that beneath the surface it brings up our stories of self worthiness, our deep innate desire to belong, to be accepted and to feel connected to our peers.
When it comes to growing your service based business on social media it takes courage.
It’s courageous to put yourself out there. It’s courageous to unapologetically decide what you stand for and openly share about it. It’s courageous to believe without evidence that people need to hear what you have to say.
I believe that you are the living breathing embodiment of what your ideal client desires to bring into their life no matter what industry you are in. When you take that perspective it becomes less about you and more about showing others what’s possible.
Your ability to take a stand for what you believe in and unapologetically share from that place is what sets you apart and what causes people to question, what does she know that I don’t know?
So when you’ve achieved a level of success or mastery in your particular field that’s led you to create incredible results in your life, why not own it?
I had a woman in my life who was a really great friend of mine, she was an inspiration to me in the early stages of my leadership career and became someone that I was very close with. Back then I led my life very much in my masculine energy and there became a point where I started to have this transition. As I began to deeply embody feminine leadership and emotional mastery, I began to shift the way that I showed up.
As I continued to step into a new level of personal power, I was feeling so much better and I began openly sharing my experience on social media. This marked the very beginning of making the decision to start building my personal brand online.
I remember having a conversation with her in this early phase, where she said to me; ‘don’t you think how you’re showing up on social media is fake?’ At the time it hurt me, because I didn’t know how to take it. It didn’t necessarily trigger me but it stung and now looking back years later I realised perhaps she wasn’t in a great place so from her perception looking at my lifestyle shift and the leap of faith to share widely might have seemed unrealistic.
When someone judges you, it isn’t actually about you. It’s about them and their own insecurities, limitations, and needs.

Around this time I had made the decision to unapologetically curate many aspects of my life. I became very intentional about what I let in, particularly drawing awareness to my own stories and leading myself emotionally. I realised through some painful experiences that it is not what happens to us, it’s always what we make it mean.
Remember this next time you receive a comment that has the potential to send you into a downwards spiral, it’s not always the words, its the meaning you give to them.
To some people that do not have your level of knowledge or self awareness it may feel triggering when you take a stand for what you believe in. Some may not believe they are worthy of living life like that, perhaps they doubt their abilities, don’t feel confident to hold their boundaries or deep down they are out of alignment so your level of integrity reminds them of that.
But this is not about them. This is about you deciding, this is where I am going, this is the standard that I uphold and aligning to your vision. From that place it’s more of a question of ‘do you want to come with me’ as opposed to seeking external validation or permission.
If you don’t own the standards that you uphold, if you don’t own how incredible the circumstances you’ve created make you feel or the fact that you took ownership to lead yourself and as a result you have created this amazing life that you love. WHY NOT. Why not own that?
Rather than shying away in fear of judgement, take a stand, rebel against the norm. Because let’s face it, many people settle, they accept comfort over going after their dreams, they settle for mediocre lives/relationships/careers/health and they live in that ‘to me’ consciousness or victim mentality.
If you desire to embrace the life of your dreams you have to be willing to raise the standard and stand up for what you believe in.
If being bold enough to go after your desires and showing others what’s possible along the way is rebellious, instead of shrinking, why not call them to rise?
There are going to be people that look at you and go, what does she know that I don’t know? If it’s possible for her, then it’s possible for me. That intrigue creates a movement that not all people, but some people are going to want to be a part of and that’s exactly what’s going to call them to want to work with you.
Too many women keep themselves small, letting things like imposter syndrome, procrastination or perfectionism get the better of them.
When the fear/emotional response is triggered in your body, oftentimes the thought that triggered that reaction is subconscious meaning you’re not consciously aware of it. This method is designed to support you in the moment when you feel that emotional response activated, for example the lump in your throat, your fast beating heart, sweaty palms and flushed cheeks.
If you have big dreams and you’re here to make an impact you’ve got to learn to walk with your fear and I want to help you do just that.
Introducing my 4 Step Method:
Step One:
Anchor into your Vision! Why is the thing you're trying to do important to you? Zoom out to ground yourself in the bigger vision and focus on your why.
Step Two:
Identify your fear(s) by observing the stories! Ask yourself, what is the story I'm telling myself here? What else might be true instead?
Step Three:
Rewrite the stories by asking yourself, what do I know for certain to be true, what do I choose to believe?
Step Four:
Create new Evidence - Do the damn thing!!! Every time you take aligned action you are creating new evidence that you can, that the path is safe, that you have in fact got this!
Own where you are, know where you are going and unapologetically align to your big vision.
If you want to stop making decisions based on fear, to quit hiding your genius and show up as a fearless leader running in the direction of your dreams, it’s time to make friends with fear!
